Furmint February Big Tasting with more than eighty wineries
The public can experience more than two hundred Furmint wines from more than eighty wineries at the 15th Furmint February Grand Tasting on Thursday in Budapest, at the House of Traditions.
The grand tasting is the culmination of the month-long Furmint February series of events, which were announced in the spirit of the “thousand faces of Furmint”, the organizers informed MTI.
Their statement recalls that fifteen years ago, when Dániel Kézdy launched the Furmint February movement, Furmint was still unduly little talked about, but today both winemakers and the wine-loving community associate the last month of winter with this grape variety that offers so many possibilities.
“We know the variety much better than we did 15 years ago, it is clear how it can be aged, and it is an excellent raw material for all styles of wine: for bubbly wines, dry whites, whites with residual sugar, late harvest wines, szamorodni, and last but not least for aszú. This year we would like to present as many faces of Furmint as possible, so that you can taste not only the excellent commercial wines that are usual at our events, but also more interesting ones”
– the announcement quotes Dániel Kézdy.
The majority of the wineries for Thursday’s grand tasting will again come from the Tokaj wine region, but the Somló wine region and the Balaton Uplands are also represented in large numbers. In addition, Furmints from Mátra, Sopron, Pannonhalma, and even foreign countries will be available to taste.
