FruitVeB: strategic aim is to reach 3.5 million tons
The Hungarian fruit and vegetable sector’s strategic objective is to reach 3.5 million tons quantity until the end of the following 2014-2020 EU budget cycle – said Mártonffy Béla the president of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Marketing Board (FruitVeB) on Monday in Budapest at a professional event.
According to Mártonffy Béla, the boost of production would result in an additional 100 thousand new jobs in the country.
This year's results are better than expected, despite the frost and drought. In 2012, an average yield of about 2.4 million tons of vegetables and fruits were harvested – he said. However, due to the unfavorable weather conditions, producer prices increased by about 20 percent, because in many areas, significant yield losses occured. (MTI)
