Fresh product tracking in practice
GS1 Hungary and Metro Kereskedelmi Kft. have already introduced the GS1 DataBar system for fresh products. This barcode types contains much more information than ordinary barcodes and can also be scanned at the cash register. The next step in the cooperation is the launch of a product tracking data communication system. By using their smartphones, consumers will have access to product information such as place of origin, processing, etc. through this platform. Information will also be made available on a website. Data will always be provided by those actors which are responsible for a given tracking event. The objective of GS1– in cooperation with the relevant authorities – is to make these solutions used widely, creating full transparency in Hungary’s food sector. (x)
