It’s important to deliver safe domestic food to consumers
It’s important for the Hungarian government that safe domestic food reaches consumers, and the existence of farmers’ markets helps this – emphasized Márton Nobilis, the State Secretary responsible for the food industry and trade policy of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Friday in Budapest at the “Vidék Mustra – Farmers’ market in the heart of the city” at the event.
He pointed out that the number of farmers’ markets in Hungary has tripled since 2012 and has risen to over 300. Márton Nobilis explained that the government provided HUF 6 billion to more than 200 applicants in the rural development program for the establishment of local farmers’ markets. The state secretary said: Hungarian food products are of high quality and safe, and this is also clearly visible in the farmers’ markets. He added that thanks to the legislative change, small producers can sell their products beyond a 40-kilometer radius of their place of residence.
Support also helps the food industry
Márton Nobilis also spoke about the fact that the government supported the Hungarian food industry with HUF 468 billion during the previous European Union development period, between 2014 and 2020, and allocated HUF 750 billion for this purpose in the next financial cycle between 2021 and 2027. It is important that, in addition to larger enterprises, smaller ones also benefit from this source – noted the state secretary. Tamás Galisz, coordinator of the Magyar Piac Szövetkezet, said at the opening of the downtown farmers’ market that the VIDEK MUSTRA program was launched in Budapest ten years ago, and at the current downtown farmers’ market, customers are waiting for their additive-free products in the area in front of the Ministry of Agriculture on Fridays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Emese Balogh-Madár, deputy mayor of District V, emphasized that they regularly help the sale of domestic products with district promotions. With the downtown farmers’ market, another valuable community space will be added to the map of the district, he added.
