Meet prices keep rising
Data from the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) and KSH’s market price information system (PÁIR) reveal that in Hungary the purchasing of broiler chicken augmented by 19 percent and its live weight production price was up 18 percent at HUF 248/kg on weeks 1-38 of 2011, if compared with the same period of 2010. Domestic chicken meat sales grew by 8 percent. Egg sales were down 18 percent and egg was bought at the packaging place for 9 percent less – HUF 16.08/piece. Data by the European Commission indicates that the community’s turkey meat production has been declining since 2004. In Hungary 6 percent less turkey was brought from breeders but its live weight production price increased by 13.5 percent in the examined period. Domestic turkey meat sales plunged 9 percent and our export dropped 5.5 percent.
