There were many student workers this summer, mainly in the field of tourism and hospitality
For the twelfth time this year, the government announced the Summer Student Work Program, in which a total of nearly 29,000 people participated instead of the planned 20,000. The original amount of 3.8 billion forints increased to more than 4.3 billion forints thanks to multiple county increases, which made it possible to employ even more students in the summer, wrote Sándor Czomba, the state secretary responsible for employment policy at the Ministry of National Economy, in his summary published on Tuesday.
Since 2013, the Summer Student Work Program has made a significant contribution to the construction of a work-based society: it facilitates the entry of young people into the labor market, strengthens the process of their work socialization, and students can even complete their professional internship through it.
Students between the ages of 16 and 25, full-time students, not employed, and not in business, could apply for the program.
The subsidies could be called upon by local governments and businesses operating in agriculture, tourism, hospitality, and forestry – recalled the competent state secretary.
Most applications were received from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár Bereg and Békés counties.
Almost 80 percent of the students were employed in the local government pillar, and there was also a significant demand in the fields of tourism and hospitality.
More than seven hundred students were employed in the field of agriculture as well.
