The Ministry of National Economy (NGM) and the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) both consider it important to protect the elderly and strengthen their consumer awareness. Therefore, the two organizations are launching a nationwide campaign, the consumer protection authority announced in a statement sent to MTI on Wednesday.

The event titled “What to look for when shopping?” aims to provide the elderly with understandable, practical advice for everyday shopping situations. Participants will learn how to prevent abuses when shopping online and how to avoid the potential risks of product presentations combined with health screenings. Food labels, price displays and other important consumer protection information will also be discussed, the NKFH announced.

The event will be attended by Krisztina Csákiné Gyuris, Deputy State Secretary responsible for Consumer Protection and Trade, and several experts from the NGM and the NKFH. After the presentations, there will be an opportunity for personal discussions, where participants can share their experiences and questions with consumer protection and food safety experts.

With this initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Council of Food and Rural Affairs aim to ensure that the older generation can confidently, consciously and safely navigate the world of everyday purchases, online transactions and services.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Council of Food and Rural Affairs will continue to do everything in the future to protect vulnerable, elderly consumers and to promote informed decision-making through their legislative, law enforcement and consumer awareness-raising activities – the authority’s announcement reads.
