Beware of ransomware!
Ransomware can cause great damage to companies in Hungary too. According to Zsolt Bárány, regional key account manager of Trend Micro, we don’t know about Hungarian cases only because companies don’t have a reporting obligation. The European Union is drafting a directive that would make it mandatory for certain institutions (e.g. financial and state in institutions) to report if a ransomware attack occurs. It is very difficult to protect computers and networks from ransomware infection, but it isn’t impossible. Trend Micro’s experts recommend making backup copies of files and testing the efficiency of data recovery tools. If an attack takes place, the worst thing to do is paying the ransome because then more attacks are likely to follow. Companies’ IT systems and software must be updated regularly!
