The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) warns producers who operate plant protection machinery that, since the introduction of the compulsory inspection system, the obligatory technical inspection of machinery over 5 years old has been due for the second time every 3 years. If a sprayer does not comply with the regulations, the authority can order the farmer to stop working and also impose a fine.

Since the summer of 2020, periodic technical inspection of plant protection machines in use has been mandatory in Hungary. Producers who own machines must have their crop protection machines older than 5 years inspected every 3 years at one of the authorized inspection stations. The first 3-year cycle has passed since the introduction of the system, so since the summer of 2023 the technical examination has become due for many crop protection machines. Based on the data recorded in its up-to-date electronic register – the Plant Protection Machine Registration System – Nébih believes that not all of the affected producers fulfilled their obligations, i.e. did not renew the expired certification sticker of their plant protection machine.

The office draws the attention of farmers and service providers to carry out a repeated technical review of plant protection machines older than 5 years as soon as possible

The plant protection authority inspectors of Nébih and the county government offices regularly check the validity of the certification stickers. If the sprayer does not meet the requirements, in that case the plant protection authority can stop work until the defect is corrected and impose a fine. The proper technical condition of the machines is one of the basic conditions of efficient farming, which is also the key to the production of safe food. All this can be ensured by regular review.
