According to a survey, career starters want a salary of half a million forints
Since last year, the wage demands of career starters have increased significantly, those between the ages of 18 and 25 now want a salary of around half a million forints, the employment agency Work Force told MTI on Friday.
While the majority of young people wanted a gross salary of between 350,000 and 450,000 forints last year, today most of them want to earn 450,000 to 600,000 forints as a starting point, and those from Budapest even more. Meanwhile, the proportion of those who would earn between HUF 200 and 350,000 has also decreased significantly, and many more people expect to earn more than HUF 800,000.
According to the feedback, the choice of job is primarily determined by the salary among young people, and the majority of them are not afraid of not finding a job that matches their qualifications. According to 71 percent of career starters, it is not difficult to find a suitable job, and 64 percent are not afraid to meet the employer’s expectations. Most career starters look for job opportunities on social media, but the importance of employment agencies has also increased, after 24 percent last year, 43 percent looked for work with them this year. Employment centers are also popular, but less and less people are looking for employers’ own advertising platforms – they added.
The survey was conducted in May 2023 on a representative sample of 500 people aged 18-25. 18 percent of the respondents worked in the trade and consumer sector, 14 percent in the manufacturing industry, and 11 percent in tourism and catering.
