Survey: two-thirds of Hungarian companies have a CSR or ESG strategy
Hungarian companies are committed to social responsibility (CSR), but they are far from providing real solutions for the effective management of social and environmental problems, according to joint research by the WHC Group and Scale Impact. 49 percent of the surveyed companies spend less than HUF 5 million per year, and the management can devote only a few working hours per month to CSR activities. In more than half of the companies, social responsibility belongs to the HR area, but the capacity and resources for this are very limited – so the set strategic goals are mostly realized in isolated activities.
The WHC Group and Scale Impact conducted a survey involving the HR managers of nearly 50 domestic companies in order to get an idea of how and to what extent the strategic connection of CSR and HR areas appears in practice in Hungary. The vast majority of companies with an average turnover of HUF 100 billion and employing a total of about 120,000 employees clearly see the changing role of social responsibility and environmentally conscious operations, and perceive the expectations from external and internal interest groups. Accordingly, nearly two-thirds of the surveyed companies have CSR and/or sustainability (ESG) objectives, but the vast majority of them do not integrate the operation of these areas into the corporate strategy – so it is difficult to achieve real change.
