Austrians are prepared for the international export competition
Austria is the 14th richest country in the world as regards per capita GDP. It is the 29th biggest export economy and the 10th most complex economy in the world – according to the economic complexity index (ECI). Austria’s most important export markets are Germany, Italy, the USA, Switzerland and Hungary. The products of Austrian food and drink manufacturers are famous for their high quality and special character. Consumers all over the world think of Austria as the place where foods and drinks are made using ingredients coming from the best natural sources. These products meet the strictest quality requirements.
Austrian food companies are used to fierce competition in the small domestic market, therefore they enter the international market well-prepared. About 90 dairy companies, with many years of experience, use the best ingredients and the latest production technology to make products of the highest quality. Fresh meat – mainly beef and pork – is exported to Japan, Switzerland and the countries of Central Europe. Austrian cured meat products, especially bacon, are also very popular abroad. Austrian groceries are present in more than 180 countries and agri-food export’s share from the GDP reached 60 percent by 2015.
