Support decisions worth more than 730 billion forints have already been made, the amount of which may exceed 1,000 billion forints in the near future in the case of investment-type applications. The developments significantly strengthen the competitiveness of Hungarian agriculture, said State Secretary József Viski at the Arable Land Professional Day of the National Association of Grain Growers, Agromash Expo.

The State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development support at the Ministry of Agriculture said that last year, agricultural and rural development payments were extremely good. While in 2024 this amount was 1,273 billion forints, in 2025 the organizational system, which operates more efficiently than before, was able to make payments of a total of 1,509 billion forints. He added that a significant step forward in ensuring farmers’ solvency is that the amount of advance and partial payments paid by the end of the year in the case of direct agricultural subsidies was higher than ever before, as the 154 thousand clients who submitted their Single Application received 557 billion forints.

The previous agricultural support cycle, i.e. the Rural Development Program (RP), also ended last year, and our country used its 3,000 billion forints budget without any loss of resources

The Hungarian countryside has undergone strong development since 2010, in which the subsidies provided through the RP play an unavoidable role. Following the government decision, thanks to the outstanding 80 percent domestic co-financing provided to EU subsidies, a greater allocation of resources than ever before was made in connection with rural development calls between 2021 and 2023. The development of Hungarian agriculture and food industry continues within the framework of the current Common Agricultural Policy Strategy, highlighted József Viski. The State Secretary of the Ministry emphasized that in addition to the more efficient and faster evaluation and payment process, previous plans were revised, responding to market and natural challenges that have arisen in the meantime with resource reallocations and new applications. The goal is to support as many farmers as possible, since farmers now have a need for developments and need resources for this, he emphasized. The scale of support decisions related to investments that stimulate economic development more than anything else justifies the raison d’être of more concentrated planning and resource management. Among other things, support decisions were made for the development of food and processing plants in the amount of more than 450 billion forints, for the renovation of livestock farms in the amount of 143 billion forints, and for investments in the horticultural sector in the amount of 105 billion forints. In addition to these, the ministry has taken numerous sectoral measures to help farmers in the extraordinary environmental, economic and market environment, in addition to crisis support and subsidized loan structures, added József Viski.
