Two years ago the debut of the Hungarian Food Summit was met with enormous interest, but at the recently concluded 82nd National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (OMÉK) the event returned on an even larger scale. An interview with founder Gergely Giczi, deputy managing director of the Agricultural Marketing Centre (AMC).

– It is no exaggeration to say that Hungary has never seen a food export development meeting on this scale before. Were you able to achieve your goals?

– The Hungarian Food Summit created a new genre two years ago, when we organised the first business event for international buyers. This time at that the second summit more than 2,500 business meetings took place – this is unprecedented.

– Where do you see the greatest export potential for the Hungarian food industry and which product categories attracted the biggest international interest?

– Every sector of the Hungarian food industry is on the verge of major progress, thanks to the approximately HUF 700-800 billion funding available in the current cycle. There is export potential in all product categories in the long term.

– Why do you think the event is so successful among both exporters and buyers?

– The Hungarian Food Summit is aimed at all food exporting companies. Its goal is simple and clear: promoting the development of foreign market relations anyway we can, opening doors and supporting business deals.

– The Hungarian Food Summit was held as part of the Hungarian Food Business Programme, which has been running for three years. What are the upcoming events?

– We are preparing for ANUGA, the world’s biggest food industry exhibition, which will be held in Cologne 4-8 October, with more than 30 Hungarian companies participating at the AMC stand and a total of around 60-70 Hungarian companies. The Hungarian Food Business Programme isn’t slowing down: we will be welcoming domestic exporters to around 20 international events in 2026. (x)
