Per capita food waste was 127kg in the EU in 2020
According to the latest data from Eurostat, food waste was 127kg per person in the EU in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Households in the EU generated 55% of the food waste, producing 70kg of waste per person. The remaining 45% was waste generated in the food supply chain. Restaurants and food services accounted for 12kg of food waste per person (9%), while retail and other types of food distribution were responsible for 9kg (7%).
