Inflation in the Czech Republic decreased in February
Annual inflation in the Czech Republic fell to 2.7 percent in February from 2.8 percent in January, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Prague.
The decrease was primarily influenced by the fall in fuel and oil prices, the office noted.
In February, prices rose by 0.2 percent over the month.
Compared to February last year, prices for products increased by 1.4 percent and those for services by 4.7 percent.
“The price increase was evident in all segments of the consumer basket, with the only exceptions being footwear and clothing. In this segment, prices have been falling continuously for the fifth month,”
– Pavla Sedivá, the statistical office’s specialist director, told reporters at a press conference. The price of clothing is 1.2 percent lower and that of footwear is more than 5 percent lower than in February last year, the director pointed out.
The price of food and non-alcoholic beverages continues to rise. Butter is now 41.6 percent higher, and the price of chocolate and chocolate products is one-third higher than a year ago. Milk is 12.3 percent more expensive and eggs are 18.6 percent more expensive.
