In February, the annual inflation in Romania was 7.2 percent
In February, the annual inflation rate in Romania was 7.2 percent, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Wednesday.
This represents a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to January’s figure of 7.4 percent, but is still higher than December’s 6.7 percent. The Romanian National Bank (BNR) already indicated at the end of 2023 that inflation can be expected to accelerate at the beginning of the year due to the tax increases implemented by the Bucharest government effective January 1.
In February, the average price of food was 4.48 percent higher than a year earlier, and non-food products rose in price by 7.82 percent.
Between March 2022 and February 2023, average inflation was 9.1 percent, the INS said.
