Fazekas Sándor: the melon sector is on a growing path
The domestic melon sector is on a growing path – said the Minister of Rural Development in Medgyesegyháza on Saturday at the National Conference on the Evaluation of the Melon Program.
The melon market was managed to steer towards orderliness. The farmers have closed a good year, producers and traders both have reached a fair income – Fazekas Sándor said. He added that consumers are benefited as well; they could buy documented, national quality fruit. In 2012, three thousand registered producers on five thousand hectares were producing melon, on a five hundred hectares larger area than in 2011. 60 percent of the crop was sold on the domestic market, 40 percent went for export.
