Sándor Fazekas: Natural instead of everything free!
Natural instead of everything! is the title of a book by Sándor Fazekas, a former Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament (Fidesz), about the challenges and risks associated with artificially produced foods. The volume was presented on Friday in Budapest, at the University of Veterinary Medicine.
At the presentation, János Nagy, State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, said that the book is particularly important because it presents in detail and clearly the increasing number of “artificial foods”.
The State Secretary drew attention to the fact that the business sector producing artificial foods will become increasingly powerful, thus going against the interests of the Hungarian national economy, although this problem does not only affect Hungary.
The distribution of artificially produced foods is a food safety, economic-financial and also a sovereignty issue
– he emphasized.
The consequences of consuming foods created with completely new technologies are still unknown, serious studies are needed to demonstrate their effects, which must also be made known to consumers – the State Secretary emphasized. He added: those dealing with the topic, universities, various professional organizations and the government have a great responsibility in this matter.
In his presentation, Sándor Fazekas addressed, among other things: the question is whether it is necessary to produce foods using various new technologies in addition to natural foods to supply humanity.
Humanity’s food production has grown much faster than the population, and food waste has reached such proportions that the food that is thrown away worldwide is enough to feed a billion people – he pointed out.
