From family business to a multi-format company
Gérard Mulliez started Auchan in 1961 in France as a family business – he was the first in Europe to combine self-service, the discounter strategy and the ‘everything under one roof’ principle. Judit Gál, communications director of Auchan Hungary told that the French influence can be felt in Auchan Hungary stores: they offer a large variety of fish and cheese. Auchan is present in 17 countries of 3 continents with hyper- and supermarkets, corner shops, online stores and drive formats. In Hungary there are 19 hypermarkets, 18 petrol stations and an online store.
