These were the most popular resorts among Hungarians this year
According to Netrisk data, travelers abroad spent an average of one week on vacation this year, and most of them chose seaside destinations. The number of travel insurance contracts increased significantly, by 14 percent, while the average insurance premium barely increased, by only 4.5 percent, so this year’s average premium was HUF 13,000. This modest increase is partly due to competition between insurers, which has prevented significant price increases.
Netrisk concluded nearly 139,000 travel insurance contracts between June and August, which indicates that the summer season brought a significant expansion in the insurance market. Márton Besnyő, managing director of Netrisk, said that this year’s growth was expected, as the uncertain economic situation in 2023 curbed the desire to travel. This year, however, with the stabilization of the economic environment, the number of trips increased, and with it the demand for travel insurance.
In the summer season, 30 percent of travelers chose Croatia as their vacation destination, while Italy was the second most popular destination with a share of 21 percent. Greece came in third place, chosen by 9 percent of those who took out travel insurance. Travel by car continued to dominate, with 55 percent of insurances tied to such trips, while the share of air vacations was 34 percent.
Among those with travel insurance, the 30-59 age group represented the largest proportion, they concluded 79 percent of the contracts. The share of younger people, i.e. those under 29, was 13 percent, while the share of those over 60 remained below 8 percent.
