These were the most popular tech items of 2024

This year, the interest in technology among Hungarians has not diminished, and customers have even stormed stores for the latest devices. MediaMarkt’s 2024 data shows that although the proportion of online shopping has continued to increase, the turnover of traditional stores is still decisive. Store attendance jumped especially during the holiday season: many people preferred personal collection instead of late delivery.

The big winners of 2024 were mobile phones, and the iPhone models stood out from the field: the iPhone 15 and iPhone 13 led the sales list head-to-head. In addition to the basic versions (128 GB), the different color variations also contributed greatly to the outstanding result. The third place on the podium was taken by the Sony PlayStation 5 game console, which also showed stable demand this year.

The Apple AirPods Pro wireless earphones were also among the hit products of the year. A few years ago, it would have been unthinkable that an accessory priced at around 100,000 forints would appear on the Top10 list.

It is an interesting technological market turn that the turnover of mobile phones has far surpassed that of televisions. It can be stated that the weight of the TV category in terms of turnover is showing a decreasing trend at MediaMarkt, which can partly be explained by the changing movie watching habits of young people.

After such a hot summer, it is not surprising that the annual turnover of air conditioners has increased by one and a half times compared to the previous year, many people are prepared for the extremely hot weather expected in the future. Upright vacuum cleaners also produced outstanding growth, with demand in this category increasing by nearly 30 percent by the end of the year.
