Among the many pointless and sometimes harmful fads spreading on social media, an unexpectedly useful trend has emerged, thanks to which sugar-free and naturally flavored mineral waters are gaining popularity among young people. We looked into the background of this.
According to experts, young people belonging to Generation Z strive to stimulate all their senses when making consumer decisions: this influences their clothing, their use of perfumes and their diet. They define their own “dolce vita” life experience within the triad of sight-smell-taste, and manufacturers naturally follow this “multisensory” trend. It seems surprising at first, but if you think about it, it fits perfectly into the above picture that consuming flavored mineral waters has become trendy among Gen Z young people.
It has been known for centuries that a few drops of fruit juice squeezed into cool water is an excellent refreshing drink. It is easy to prepare, healthy and perfectly hydrating. Soft drinks have long dominated consumer societies, but with the growing demand for a healthy lifestyle and natural foods, consumer habits have also changed. Thanks to this, naturally flavored natural mineral water has become increasingly popular in recent years as a healthy alternative to soft drinks. According to an American scientific study, consumers like these mineral waters because they combine three effects: they are refreshing, they quench thirst, and they taste good.
The other, mainly generational reason may be surprising: some of the GenZ youth have turned away from alcohol consumption and are looking for healthy, yet unique, flavorful alternatives. But of course, social media has also significantly influenced young people’s choices. Thanks to trends like WaterTok and influencers who have become popular with their flavored water recipes, bottled flavored waters have also quickly become popular. Mainly because the latter are safe to consume, the product is guaranteed to be of high quality, while the miracle recipes offered by influencers quickly turned out to be harmful to health.
“In addition to health awareness as an important reason, naturally flavored mineral waters are also popular because young people like exotic, special flavors and unusual flavor combinations. In addition, the fads spreading on social media also encourage them to consume flavored mineral waters, which is one of the few positive lifestyle trends on social media. But, as always, the main reason for the success of these drinks is that they taste good and are healthy,”
