This decision affects the entire soybean market
Chinese authorities have suspended soybean exports from five Brazilian companies after their shipments failed to meet phytosanitary requirements. The measure, which came into effect in early January, will last for two months and could have a serious impact on the world’s largest soybean importer, as the companies in question account for more than 30 percent of Brazil’s soybean exports.
The Brazilian government has launched an investigation
Luis Rua, the Brazilian agriculture minister, said the ministry was investigating the matter and was trying to provide information to China as soon as possible. While the exact details are not yet known, the minister said it was likely that only a small amount was affected.
The suspension affects the following companies:
Cargill,
ADM,
Olam (global traders),
C.Vale,
Terra Roxa (Brazilian companies).
It is important to note that the suspension does not apply to all export activities, but only to certain units. This means that other plants of the affected companies can continue to export to China.
