This superfood could be the big hit of the soccer European Championship
The new type of crunchy snack made from the production by-product of craft breweries, which is behind a dedicated team of female entrepreneurs, can be a worthy opponent of the peanut-nachos-ropi beer skate trio during the summer soccer European Championship and the Olympics. The raw material of beer groat crackers is barley and/or wheat ground left over from malting, rich in fiber, protein and vitamin B, which is not only healthy, but also delicious. Why do we call beer dregs crackers so-called upcycled food, and what do we need to know about food recycling?
Well, upcycled foods are made from raw materials that would otherwise have been thrown away as a by-product of the production of another food, even though they are still completely suitable for human consumption. The urge to use everything in the kitchen has been known since ancient times, which is how breadcrumbs, sausages, and brandy were born. An excellent raw material that can be used, for example, is the barley and/or wheat ground left over from malting during beer production, also known as beer dregs, which is extremely rich in nutrients, but until now it has mostly been used as animal feed. However, thanks to Secontaste, since 2021, so-called beer rennet granolas have been available – in several flavors, including cherry, chocolate and hazelnut versions – which can already be found in cafes, on the shelves of delicatessens, or in the breakfast buffets of hotels, and in the future they can represent a real presence in the breakfast cereal market an alternative to the products of large manufacturers. And as the latest recycling of beer dregs, the cracker version may arrive this summer, which, in addition to the trio of peanuts-nachos-ropi on the palette of beer skates, is a new kind of snack that slides at least as fast as the beer itself.
The originator of the product is Júlia Dalmadi, known for her beer tarragon granolas from the RTL Klub Cápák gött show. A food futurist with many years of international professional experience, he has been working with his team and partners on reducing food waste and food upcycling for years.
