This type of store is becoming more and more popular in Hungary
“American stores” are spreading rapidly in Hungary, where you can find food mainly from the United States, which are typically offered at high prices. These stores sell products that traditional stores do not sell here, so they are considered special. Young people are especially attracted to these shops, although the prices of the products are high.
The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) and the National Tax and Customs Office were asked about the rules for the distribution of imported food. According to EU and national legislation, only safe food can be marketed, and imported products are strictly controlled. Food sold in “American stores” must meet EU hygiene standards, and imported products are inspected by the authorities. Products classified as risky must be reported via the European Commission’s online system.
Nébih supervises food safety and regularly checks products to ensure consumer safety. Despite the rise in popularity of “American stores”, pricing and strict control of imported products remain important issues.
