Since 2004, when the British Retailer started to operate with joint venture partnere, the company opened 50 hypermarkets, this year Tesco has 300 million dollars investment in China.
Tesco, Britain’s biggest retailer, is planning a new front in its international expansion by opening a first Tesco Express convenience store in China. The move next month is expected to herald the roll-out of the small store format across the country, one of the world’s fastest growing economies. The first Tesco Express will be opened in Shanghai through a joint venture with Tin Cao, with which the supermarket giant already runs more than 50 Hymall-branded hypermarkets. Tesco opened its first Tesco-branded store in China in Beijing a year ago. Carrefour, the French supermarket chain, runs 300 discount stores in China.
