About 50,000 tons of dry pasta are bought in Hungary every year
About 50,000 tons of dry pasta are placed in the baskets of customers in Hungary every year. In contrast to the foreign trend, 4- and 8-egg pastas are the best-sellers here, and the market for durum and whole-grain frozen pastas is also constantly growing – the National Chamber of Agricultural Economics (NAK) summarized the results of its survey.
According to the overview, high raw material prices, energy and fuel costs, as well as logistics expenses and labor shortages did not escape domestic pasta producers either. In addition, the significant amount of cheap imported goods also poses serious challenges to the players of the sector. However, despite the difficulties, the manufacturers still do not want to compromise on the quality of their products, they are trying to maintain their competitiveness with product and packaging developments, automation, the technical level and the quality of traditional products, the chamber stated.
In Hungary, 150 companies are engaged in the production of dry pasta, employing around 2,000 workers. About half of the companies can be called artisans, as they have a production capacity of less than 50 tons in a year.
