Every year one million tons of food products are thrown out in Austria
Every year one million tons of food products are thrown into the trash in Austria – according to a study presented on Monday in Linz. The study was made by the Austrian Institute of Ecology.
Thirty percent of the world's food production is not consumed. On European Union level 89 million tons of food is thrown into the trash annually. In Austria, 300 thousand tons of food is thrown out by the households, 250 thousand tons by the hospitality, and 100 thousand tons of food is thrown out by food trade. The rest ends up in the trash during manufacturing and processing. (Gräf Szilvia, MTI)
