By the end of the year, poultry meat may become at least two times more expensive
László Bárány, owner of the Master Good company group, told Index that a price increase of at least 30-35 percent is expected for poultry products in the next four months. According to him, there is also a real danger of the sector shrinking, after the population has already started to curb their consumption.
So far, the effect of last year’s cost increases has mostly appeared in the price of poultry meat, however, the release of energy prices creates a new situation and necessitates further price increases in order for processors and producers to survive. According to László Bárány, the president of the Hungarian Broiler Association, the sector is facing a very difficult period, in the case of smaller players with less modern barns and less capital, winter shutdowns and the closure of livestock farms are likely.
“Based on the current outlook, I see that the industry will be forced to raise prices in at least two more stages by the end of the year for fresh, frozen and processed products”
László Bárány, owner of the Master Good company group, told Index. According to his words, the first intention to raise prices by around 22-25 percent was already announced to the domestic retail partners last week. And if it does not compensate for the cost increase, then in the fall, at the beginning of winter, the actors of the sector consider another price increase of 10-15 percent necessary, primarily due to the increase in the price of live animals and the significant increase in energy costs.
