Contestants had to prepare their ice creams in front of an audience. This year the competition received a record 90 entries in 5 categories, and confectioners made no fewer than 130 different ice creams. The new apricot category was a huge success: a total of 20 ice creams competed here.

A jury of the best pastry chefs, an audience jury and of panel of the trade organisations evaluated the ice-creams. Ice Cream of the Year became “Pumpkin seed sorbet with red berries” by Nándor Bergmann (A Kis Bergmann Confectionery, Balatonfüred), and the winner of the free-from category was “Apricot lime passion fruit” by Éva Heléna Marsa (Vanília & Gelarto, Nagykőrös). //

A lucky coincidence

“As a matter of fact, this ice cream wasn’t originally made for the competition. A colleague opened a box of pumpkin seed paste by accident and I decided to use it for an ice cream, with which I finally entered the competition. Local and quality ingredients have always been important to me, so I used pumpkin seeds and virgin pumpkin seed oil from Pepo Papa in Nemesvámos. Pumpkin seed oil is rich in minerals and its magnesium, potassium and calcium content is especially high”, told the winner, Nándor Bergmann. //
