Eurostat: the number of guest nights booked on online platforms increased last year
The number of guest nights booked on online platforms in the European Union in 2023 increased by 13.8 percent compared to the previous year’s data, the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Wednesday.
According to the report, guests booked almost 678.6 million short-term rental accommodations last year via Airbnb, Booking, Expedia, or TripAdvisor tourism and accommodation booking platforms, the number of guest nights spent was 13.8 percent higher than the previous year.
Reservations made via online platforms exceeded the figures for the same months of the previous year in eleven months of last year, and in the last quarter of 2023, an increase of more than 20 percent was registered compared to the same period of the previous year. October was outstanding, when guests spent 55.3 million nights in accommodations booked through online platforms, which represents an increase of 21.9 percent compared to October 2022. In November, 31.8 million guest nights were registered, which represents a 20 percent increase compared to November of the previous year, and in December, 45.3 million guest nights were recorded, which exceeded the December 2022 data by 25.8 percent.
