Eurostat: European coffee production grew by 10 percent in 10 years
In 2016, the European Union (EU) imported nearly 3 million tons of coffee, 10 percent more than 10 years ago. Imports amounted to 6.9 billion euros, Eurostat said in a report published on Friday on the occasion of the World Coffee Day.
According to the European Union’s statistical office, the main importer in the European Union is Germany, where 1.1 million tons of coffee arrived last year. This is 37 percent of the EU imports. Italy imported 560 000 tonnes (19 percent), Belgium 269 000 tonnes (9 percent), Spain 229 000 tonnes (8 percent), France 183 000 tonnes (6 percent) and the UK 173 000 tonnes (6 percent). (MTI)
