European Purchasing Power 2024: Hungary in 30th place
According to the latest analysis by GfK, the average purchasing power per capita of the European population in 2024 will be 18,768 euros, which is an increase of 3.9% compared to the previous year. However, there are significant differences between the 42 countries analyzed: while Liechtenstein continues to lead the ranking with a purchasing power per capita of 70,180 euros, Ukraine is a distant second with only 2,878 euros.
Hungary’s position in the European field
Hungary is ranked 30th in the ranking, which is a one-place drop compared to the previous year. The purchasing power per capita is 11,570 euros, which is 38% below the European average. The differences in purchasing power within the country are significant: while the residents of Budapest have an average of 15,029 euros, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county is a distant second with 8,988 euros.

The counties with the highest purchasing power are located near the Austrian border and around Budapest:
Budapest – 15,029 euros
Komárom-Esztergom County – 12,515 euros
Fejér County – 12,364 euros
Pest County – 12,306 euros
Veszprém County – 11,588 euros
