Domestic goose production is also dominant at European level
In Hungary, demand for goose meat is focused around St. Martin’s Day and Christmas, so the goose industry is confident that the market may become more balanced in the coming weeks. In 2018, nearly 22,000 tonnes of slaughter goose products were produced in processing plants.
Hungary, together with Poland, plays a decisive role in the European goose industry. At the end of 2018, the number of geese in Hungary was 1.3 million. Daily goose hatching approached 6.5 million individuals in 2018, compared to the 5 million of 2017 and 6.8 million of 2016. Last year, slaughterhouses took over 34,000 tonnes of goose, while processing plants produced almost 22,000 tonnes of goose meat products.
