European Court of Auditors: The Union must increase the rate of recycling of plastic packagings
The European Union needs to increase the rate of recycling of plastic packagings, as there is a serious risk that it will not meet its targets for 2025 and 2030, the European Union’s Luxembourg-based Court of Auditors announced on Tuesday.
According to the EU Court of Auditors, recyclability could be given more emphasis in packaging design, and new EU rules could provide an incentive for manufacturers to do so. There is a need for new rules that extend producer responsibility beyond the aim of reducing the weight of packaging. (MTI)
