Europe and wine
Major changes are coming in EU regulations for the wine market. A surplus of wine has accumulated in the EU and exports are growing more slowly than imports. The reforms which are being prepared will be aimed at laying down simple and transparent rules to help promote wine consumption, to make the industry more competitive and to help preserve the environment. There are, however, still a lot of details to be worked out. Many subsidies will be withdrawn, there will be organisational and financial restructuring, rules regarding the use of geographic names will be tightened, etc.
