On May 8th, snaking lines and happy guests across the country indicated that the love for Hungarian artisanal ice cream is unbroken – even in gloomy weather.

On May 8th, the Hungarian Ice Cream Day was held again, and it was a greater success than ever: organized by Experience and Expertise Hungary, more than 150 pastry shops and ice cream parlors from the country joined the event. The aim of the initiative was not only to popularize ice cream, but also to support the quality products of the domestic food industry, the artisanal ice cream culture and local businesses.

The participating places agreed to offer at least four types of ice cream at half price on this day. This discount created a great opportunity for guests to try new flavors and discover local pastry shops – many even visited places they had never been to before.

“This campaign is a particularly family-friendly program. It’s a great opportunity for people to go ice cream shopping and discover local pastry shops – even those they haven’t been to before. At the same time, they support the Hungarian ice cream culture, traditions and innovation,” said Vanda Nebehaj, founder and communications manager of the Experience and Expertise Hungary Foundation.

Positive feedback from all over the country

Ice cream fans stormed the ice cream shops in the morning – in many places, long lines formed in front of the counters by the afternoon. For example, in Nyíregyháza, at the Stühmer Mintabolt, traffic increased in the morning. “Several people came back for a second round. The guests left smiling – it was a successful day in every way,” reported Dorottya Hegedűs, an employee of the local Stühmer Confectionery.

In Jászberény, the gloomy weather did not deter the guests at the Puncs Confectionery: nearly 200 people visited them. “We offered all our ice creams at half price, we are already looking forward to the next occasion!” – said Edit Bodnár.

In Sopron, Mokka Caffee was prepared with new, exciting flavors: salted caramel popcorn and pecan-pear caramel proved to be particularly popular. Even local television visited the location. “The novelties were a great success, the guests were open to new taste experiences” – said owner Péter Frang.
