The registration of waste reduction actions planned for this year’s 17th European Week for Waste Reduction (November 22-30) has been closed, so our country will be on the international map of the European Week for Waste Reduction with 586 actions this year. 586 waste reduction actions have been registered by domestic action developers for the 2025 European Week for Waste Reduction.

The Week is coordinated by the National Energy Agency Ltd. with the support of the Ministry of Energy, with the professional participation of the Association of Environmental Protection Service Providers and Manufacturers.

The goal this year is also waste prevention, conscious purchasing, reuse, recycling and proper waste management, and the discovery and publication of fresh, innovative ideas.

That is why it is important to explore local opportunities, individual and community ideas, and the implementation of existing or planned practices, with which we can work together economically and effectively to protect our narrower and wider environment and to conserve resources.

The focus of this year’s Waste Reduction Week is e-waste, the correct management and reduction of which is a major environmental and economic challenge, as it contains both hazardous substances and valuable raw materials. By 2035, 65% of e-waste needs to be recycled, but currently this rate is only 30%, so we have a lot to do. Even more worrying is that the amount of e-waste is expected to continue to increase worldwide. Therefore, this year, the organizers also expected campaigns that focus on preventing electrical and electronic equipment from becoming waste, the safe repair, reuse, professional collection and recycling of these devices and tools (delivery at the appropriate collection point), as well as all other awareness-raising initiatives related to the reduction of e-waste.

During the preparation, the organizers prepared professional materials, held informational sessions, and webinars for interested parties and representatives of the 5 target groups indicated in the call (educational institutions, associations, business organizations, public administration bodies, private individuals). On these occasions, the participants heard presentations on the topic of waste management – especially electrical and electronic waste – and then discussed the topic interactively.   In addition to professional questions, the organizers, professional contributors, industrial partners, and regional coordinators also requested, received, and shared practical information that helped with the organization in their region and among their partners, which is available on the www.szelektalok.hu and www.kszgysz.hu pages.

These methodological information, the professional materials, presentations, and freely usable creatives are available and downloadable on the websites, thus providing appropriate knowledge and assistance for the implementation of the actions to be implemented in the last week of November.

Thus, 586 registered domestic actions were added to the Weekly Domestic Map, which will be implemented between November 22-30:

The majority of registered actions (53%) are made by domestic educational institutions, which proves the commitment of institutions, teachers and students to environmental issues and environmental education:

Preparations for the implementation of the action ideas have already begun. The period until November 22, 2025 is a period of careful planning and preparations, so that after that, until November 30, everywhere and in every waste reduction promotion and presentation program, everything will be about responsible existence, conscious shopping, creativity, saving resources, reuse, and recycling.
