No change in grocery value sales in the last six months
Retail’s revenue from grocery sales didn’t change in the 90 categories audited by Nielsen in the last six months if compared with the base period twelve months earlier.
In December 2012-May 2013 sales amounted to HUF 660 billion. In terms of volume there was a 3-percent sales drop. 28 percent of Hungary’s population lives in Budapest and Pest County and these consumers realised 34 percent of grocery sales. What is more, it was them who purchased 37-40 percent of cheese, mineral water and fruits. 18 percent of the country’s population lives in the North West and they had a 19-percent share from sales; all other regions were under-represented as regards their population/sales ratio.
