The market has expanded both in terms of value and volume
Fruit tea has become more popular than black tea, according to November 2006 – October 2006 retail figures. Herbal tea and green tea have also gained market share at the expense of black tea. The tea market has been expanding steadily for years. Total annual sales exceed HUF 9 billion in value and 1,4 thousand tons in volume. Filter teas are much more popular than traditional teas, they have a market share of 78 per cent in stores. Average consumer prices are rising, with HUF 219 last October, compared to HUF 214 a year before. Modern store types have further improved their positions in the retail trade of tea. Hyper-markets had a 29 per cent market share, while stores in the 401-2500 sqm category had 30. The market share of traditional stores with less than 400 sqm of floor space is shrinking.
