Drugstores strengthening their position in HUF 19 billion market
According to the Nielsen Retail Index, retail sales of hair care products stagnated at slightly over HUF 19 billion last year. The nearly HUF 11 billion market of shampoos remained stable in terms of value, but shrunk by 4 percent in terms of quantity. Sales of conditioners were up by 4 percent in terms of value, approaching HUF 3 billion, but dropped by 3 percent in terms of quantity. Drugstores strengthened their position in all segments by 1-3 percent. Private labels continued to account for 22 percent of sales in the shampoo segment in 2008, while their market share dropped by 1 percent in the other two segments. The market share of 2 in 1 shampoos and those intended for dry hair both increased.
