Budapest Airport closed a strong quarter
According to Budapest Airport’s announcement, the airport closed the first quarter with excellent results in both passenger traffic and cargo business. In March, 1,296,509 passengers visited Liszt Ferenc International Airport, which represents an increase of 21.7% compared to the same period of the previous year and 10.5% more than in March 2019. With these data, the airport handled more than 3.4 million passengers in the first quarter, which represents a 10.2% increase compared to the record year before the epidemic.
The increase in passenger traffic observed by Budapest Airport exceeds the company’s previous forecasts, based on which, by the end of the year, the total annual passenger traffic may significantly exceed the previous record of 16.2 million passengers.
In addition to passenger traffic, the cargo business also showed significant growth. The airport handled 23,720 tons of air cargo in March, which is 40.7% more than in March 2023 and surpasses the strongest month ever in November, when 22,206 tons of cargo were handled at the airport. In the first quarter, a total of 61,940 tons of goods were handled, which represents a 39.6% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the airport’s forecasts, the cargo business will remain strong, and up to 240,000 tons of goods could be handled by the end of 2024, which would be another record.
