Sprint after a marathon – this was the summer between the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to RevNGo.com. Analyzing the data of the KSH, the decrease in domestic tourism is estimated at 11-13 percent. Although August and July performed well and September was also outstanding in terms of domestic bookings, the next period holds a 20-35 percent decline by the end of the year.

The complete halt was replaced by an explosive booking mood before the season. According to the data of Szallas.hu, although there were still a third fewer bookings in June than last year, it was already 5 percent higher in July and 13 percent higher in August. The gross turnover mediated by the domestic hotel reservation portal increased by 10.8 percent in the summer compared to 2019. The number of bookings made through them for summer dates increased by 1.4 percent. Although their offers were sought after, the lack of foreign tourists caused a significant loss to tourism. Examining the data of the KSH, Szallas.hu estimates the decrease in domestic tourism to be 11-13 percent.
