The flavors of Transylvania will be presented at the Taste of Transylvania festival in Szentendre at the end of March

The Taste of Transylvania festival awaits visitors with its diverse gastronomy of Transylvania’s different nationalities, concerts and family programs in the Szentendre Open-Air Museum between March 27 and 29.

According to the organizers’ statement on Wednesday, the special feature of the gastro-cultural festival, previously organized in the Gyimes and Borospatak open-air museums, and debuting in Hungary for the first time this year in the Transylvania region of the Open-Air Museum of Ethnography, is that in addition to Transylvanian Hungarian flavors, it also offers a glimpse into the best of Romanian, Jewish, Saxon and Armenian cuisine.

At the three-day event, the best Hungarian, Transylvanian and Romanian star chefs will demonstrate how they combine traditional recipes and methods with the most modern gastronomic trends in their everyday work

According to the information, the most spectacular program element of the festival will be the “Örömfőzde”, as part of which Transylvanian cooks and Michelin-starred chefs will compare their knowledge, and their task will be to cook in parallel from the same ingredients.

On Friday, musicians from the 4S Street band will perform, while on Saturday, gastronomic writer Alíz Jánossy and Transylvanian women will compete with Romanian star chefs, while on Sunday, visitors can sample dishes from János Mizsei (MÁK restaurant), Páva Boys (Páva restaurant, Székelyudvarhely), and Renátó Kovács (Hilda Budapest).

As mentioned, at the Szentendre event, as part of the “edible forest project”, forester Gyula Bózsó and chef Ádám Darab (Végállomás Bistro&Wine) will present wild ingredients found in the Bükk forests and creative dishes made from them;

during the program presenting sustainable ingredients and cocktails, Elysian Budapest Cocktail Bar and Sára Megyeri (Dzsindzsa) will introduce interested parties to new, modern options for making alcoholic beverages.

The tent of the Székely Association of Hosts will also be set up for a herbal workshop and a cheese and pálinka demonstration during the three-day event.

In addition, two special discussions will be organized, as part of which Zsolna Ugron, Zsófia Mautner and Krisztián Nyáry will discuss aristocratic and peasant cuisine, as well as writers’ favorites, while Tímea Gáll, Előd Szőcs, Zsófia Mautner and Adorján Trucza will they will talk about Transylvanian recipes of the past 450 years and the books that present them – they listed.

According to the announcement, the general public will be entertained by the 4S Street band on the opening day of the festival, and by the Bagossy Brothers Company on Saturday.

The event will be enriched by book presentations and film screenings, and the audience will also be able to meet Ákos Kovács and the makers of the recently released film about the singer – they added.

On Sunday, family programs await visitors: children will enjoy a concert by the Alma band, followed by a performance by storyteller Szende Csernyik, as well as a family playhouse and A chimney cake-making workshop is also available on site – they wrote.

The Taste of Transylvania programs are complemented by a farmers’ market and a gastropub, where visitors can also purchase Easter holiday ingredients

During the entire opening hours of the festival, special buses will run between the Szentedre bus station and the Skanzen bus stop every twenty minutes.
