Poultry prices rose slightly

According to data from the Central Statistical Office, Hungary’s poultry meat exports increased by 3 percent to 225 thousand tons in 2024 compared to 2023. Within this, chicken meat exports decreased by 1 percent to 145 thousand tons, while turkey meat increased by 14 percent to 24 thousand tons. The largest target markets for poultry meat were Romania, Germany, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 19 percent to 69 thousand tons in the observed period. Within this, chicken meat imports fell by 19 percent to 53 thousand tons, while turkey meat imports increased by 9 percent to almost 5 thousand tons. Most poultry meat came from Poland. According to AKI slaughter statistics, almost 60 thousand tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in January 2025, 10.3 percent less than in the first month of 2024. Within this, broiler chicken accounted for 46.1 thousand tonnes (+1.4 percent), while broiler turkeys accounted for 5.9 thousand tonnes (–2.0 percent). According to data from the European Commission, the EU average price of a whole chicken was 278 euros/100 kilograms in the first ten weeks of 2025, which was 7.5 percent higher than the previous year. According to data from AKI PÁIR, the live weight producer price of broiler chickens in Hungary increased by 4.5 percent to 431.3 forints/kilogram, and that of broiler turkeys by 1.7 percent to 608.1 forints/kilogram in the first ten weeks of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillet was 1908.4 HUF/kilogram (+12.4 percent), chicken breast with bones was 1235.9 HUF/kilogram (+20.1 percent), and chicken breast (total) was 1853.7 HUF/kilogram (+11.6 percent) in the observed period.
