Energy consumption reduction in commercial refrigeration
A feasibility study was prepared for the EPTA XTE system installed in the Auchan Maglód Hypermarket.

Continuous research and development results in increasingly modern technology
Epta – an independent global player and the leading group of companies specializing in commercial refrigeration – achieved significant energy savings
in the Auchan Maglód hypermarket with the help of the XTE system (Extra Transcritical Efficiency) implemented in cooperation with Energy Recovery Inc. in the months following the installation.
XTE is an innovative supplementary cooling system, currently in the patent phase, which will revolutionize refrigeration systems in the large format retail sector.
The store features a unique transcritical CO2 system with two ECO2Large group units, one of which has been equipped with an XTE unit. The system with increased cooling capacity has a total capacity of 285 kW.
– The data collected and analyzed showed better performance than expected over a wide range of operating conditions, taking into account the different seasonal external temperatures, with an average saving of 15% measured with the XTE system operating up to an ambient temperature of 42°C – said Stefano Trabucchi, Head of Systems Engineering at Epta Group. – This result is the result of continuous research and development efforts aimed at making the technology increasingly state-of-the-art, starting with the optimization and standardization of the refrigeration circuit.
