Schnuck Markets goes live with AI-based salad bars
Schnuck Markets Inc. is rolling out a “smart salad bar” experience at select stores.
The regional Midwest grocer is deploying the Picadeli artificial intelligence (AI)-based salad bar solution to 22 Schnucks stores in Missouri and Illinois, as well as its Eatwell Market banner locations. Schnucks initially announced the implementation in March 2023.
Through its proprietary software and hardware, the Picadeli solution enables full traceability of its supply chain. In addition, by scanning a QR code, Schnucks can ensure products do not stay out longer than allowed by receiving signals for the need to refill and reorder.
The AI-based salad bar is customized for each Schnucks location, using machine learning to determine what ingredients are most sought after at individual stores. The solution also offers food safety features, such as a design comprised of hygienic materials, technology-enabled shielding hoods, and an automatic hand sanitizer and bowl dispensers. Its mounting system for utensils is designed to ensure that the handle is never in contact with food, and that products are not mixed.
