Small shops’ market share is growing
Energy and sports drinks were sold for more than HUF 15 billion a year in the last two years. Between February 2013 and January 2014 value sales rose 4 percent but volume sales declined by 1 percent in grocery retail. It is noteworthy that stores with a floor space below 400m² realised 48 percent of sales in the examined period: this was 1 percentage point more than in the base period of one year earlier and way above their 35-percent share of the 90 grocery categories audited by Nielsen. Manufacturer brands had an 87-percent share from sales.
