The price of imported salads has increased
According to KSH data, Hungary’s head lettuce imports decreased by 4 percent (to 1,050 tons) in 2024 compared to the previous year. Spain remained the largest supplier, from which 375 tons of head lettuce arrived. Exports expanded by 43 percent to almost 2,090 tons, primarily to Poland and the Czech Republic. The value of Hungary’s head lettuce exports increased by 48 percent to HUF 830.8 million, and the value of imports increased by 37 percent to HUF 449.9 million in the observed period.

According to KSH data, the revenue from the export of other salad crops (excluding head lettuce) increased by 18 percent to HUF 3.47 billion, and the value of imports increased by 5 percent to HUF 7.75 billion in 2024. In terms of volume, imports increased by 5 percent (to 17,110 tons). The largest supplier is Spain, from which 10.53 thousand tons of lettuce arrived. Exports increased by 14 percent, reaching 6.61 thousand tons in 2024. The quantity delivered to the largest target market, Romania, decreased by 18 percent to 3.43 thousand tons. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestic lettuce at the Budapest Wholesale Market increased by 2 percent to 292 HUF/piece in the 1st–10th week of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The wholesale price of imported lettuce was 9 percent (306 HUF/piece), that of iceberg lettuce by 23 percent (573 HUF/piece), and that of Lollo-type shredded lettuce by 25 percent (458 HUF/piece) in the 1st–10th week of 2025 compared to the previous year.
